AMALFI
Amalfi is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy thanks to its authentic and colourful past and its location near the sea and with the mountains behind but also because the city has preserved buildings dating back to 800.
The Cathedral of S. Andrea completely dominating Amalfi is the best known. This cathedral along with other buildings were reconstructed during 1200-century in Arab-Norman style, giving the city its particular look.
Beside the cathedral, the Cloister of Paradise and the Town Hall Museum are also worth a visit.
Amalfi’s market is every wednesday between 8-13 pm. Following the main street and where the road narrows it begins the local market near the paper manufactory. At the paper manufactory you can take a guided tour to see how the paper is produced. The paper produced by hand can also be bought in the shop "Amalfi nelle Stampe Antiche " located in the square.
Amalfi is also famous for its sweets with lemon aroma and homemade chocolate filled with lemon liqueur. The original recipe for Limoncello (lemon liqueur) is considered to come from Amalfi (but there are different opinions about this, and most manufacturers consider they have the original recipe). Limoncello can be tasted in many stores around Duomo.
Amalfi has a small private beach and a part of it is communal. In the private part of it you can rent sun beds and beach umbrellas. There are also smaller boats that take you to the beaches of Santa Croce and Duoglio, about 3-4 km to the west. On the western side of Amalfi you will find two sandy beaches nestled between high cliffs.
On the beaches there are many restaurants and the possibility of beach chairs rental.
The restaurants are open from June to September and are partially built each spring.
Many boats depart from the port of Amalfi towards Duoglio beach and then reach in a few minutes the beach of Santa Croce and then turn back to Amalfi.
According to the National Geographic magazine, Amalfi Coast is one of the 50 places on earth that must be visited in order to be a true globetrotter ...
