PUGLIA
Puglia represents the "heel" of Italy, shaped as a long land strip which includes the promontory of Gargano.
It also includes the shores of two seas, the Adriatic and the Ionian and has mostly a flat territory with a long coastline with beautiful beaches.
Nature, history, traditions, spirituality, food, wellness .. there is something for everyone!
The territory of Gargano with its karsts rocks, lush vegetation and turquoise blue sea hosts:the beautiful Tremiti Islands, the reefs of Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, the beautiful resorts of Rodi Garganico, Peschici, Vieste, Pugnochiuso, Villanova, Lido Silvano...all of them with white sandy beaches, Alberobello, the original village with small houses inverted funnel shaped called "Trulli", the Caves of Castellana, a complex of caves with stalactites and stalagmites of alabaster and glass, the beautiful National Park of Gargano with the beautiful Foresta Umbra, the lakes inhabited by waterfowls, brakish and full of fish…are all testifying the beautiful nature that characterize the inner part of the region.
Puglia has also a rich history with art monuments, culture and traditions that testify the old Magna Grecia, the imperial period until the age of Renaissance and Baroque .. and all this can be found in cities like: Brindisi, Salento, Lecce.
The cuisine of Puglia is well-known, poor but rich in flavours, resembling the dishes of the East.
Very good and highly appreciated are "orecchiette with turnip tops" , fried anchovies, mussels, squids, oysters au gratin “alla Tarantina” and fish cooked in various ways. Vegetables and cheeses are also appreciated: "burrata”, a fresh cheese is a typical example.
The desserts from Puglia are also very popular, often made with honey and almonds and difficult to forget are even the good wines like Trani and white Locorotondo. Excellent!
