AOSTA VALLEY
Aosta Valley is the smallest region of Italy, entirely mountainous and gathered round the valley formed by Dora Baltea river in the middle of the Alps.
It is surrounded by four of the highest mountains in Italy and Europe: Mont Blanc, Cervino, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso .It borders with Switzerland and France offering priceless panoramic views …There are many valleys, some of which were carved by glaciers into movements that now cover only the highest peaks and the southern part of the region is occupied by Gran Paradiso National Park, created to safeguard certain endangered species of flora and fauna like: mountain goats, eagles, chamois, marmots and ermines.
Being a mountainous region, it obviously attracts for its nature and beauty but also for sport activities that can be practiced and for its gastronomic traditions.
Valle d’Aosta has a cuisine based on simple but tasty dishes, faithful to the ancient gastronomic traditions based on beef meat dishes accompanied by a good red wine. Aosta Valley’s cuisine is also rich in wild game meat and among the tasty cold cuts can be found "Mocetta", chamois or ibex ham. Absolutely to be tasted are “polente Valdostane” with cheese, mushrooms or venison ...
Climbing on the mountains can be done by professionals and those less familiar with mountaineering can use the lift service, close to Courmayeur, which is one of the most important European ski resorts as well as a charming old town of rare beauty.
From a geographical and historical point of view, Valle d'Aosta is considered the fusion crossroad, a place of exchange and contact between Italy and France, thanks to the modern tunnels of Gran St. Bernard and Mont Blanc.
