CALABRIA
Calabria is the most southerly region of Italy, between the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian Sea and represents the peak "of the boot".
The region, though not too much known abroad, enters the heart of the visitors especially through its beautiful sandy beaches and the rocky coasts, the magnificent colours of the sea, the nature mysteriously wild and the flavours of its cuisine that makes it so unique.
The inland is also of extreme beauty with presence of lakes and waterfalls (Ampollino Lake surrounded by woods that makes it rich in panoramic views, Lake Cecita, popular among anglers for its beautiful rivers: Crati, Lao, Lamato, Pedrace, Mesina, Busento).
The long tyrrhenian and ionian shores give the possibility to a wide choice of beautiful maritime resorts: Tropea, Pizzo, Ricadi, Amantea, Capo Rizzuto, Praia a Mare, Soverato, Zambrone are just some examples of beautiful and beloved resorts.
The presence of tourist camps, especially those by the sea, are of great touristic importance.
Calabria offers also history and traditions, being a land of ancient Greek settlements, witnessed by the many churches, monasteries and castles (such as the Aragonese Castle in Reggio Calabria).
Vibo Valentia still has characteristics of the Greek city called Hipponion.
Cosenza, that used to be called in the past the "Athens of Calabria” has a typical aragonese architecture in the ancient part of the town.
For relax and wellness vacation, Terme Caronte Spa, Terme di Crotone Spa or Spa Sibarite Lunigiane provide natural sources of sulfur and mineral waters and treatments for all types of requests.
Calabria also has a cuisine loved by all who “visit” it: simple and genuine using soil products, vegetables, rich flavours, rich in red typical local chilli and garlic.Simple dishes, often made of roasted meat or fish that can be enjoyed with preserved tomatoes or fried eggplant. A dessert speciality consists in dried grapes and figs or sweets made with almonds and honey.
Often the dishes are accompanied by excellent local wines: the red Ciro or the white Lamezia are just some examples
