CINQUE TERRE
A success right from the beginning!
About 15 - 20 years ago Cinque Terre did not even have a foreign tourist.
Then the news spread from mouth to mouth about the charming five small villages lying among the rocks at sea level in Liguria.
The british chef Floyd went and cooked crabs in the village squares and so the reputation of these charming five villages spread to other countries.
Cinque Terre was named a National Park, Marine Reserve and a World Heritage by UNESCO.
The five most famous villages are called: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.
In total there are just a bit over 5000 inhabitants in Cinque Terre. The nearest airports are Pisa or Genoa.
The train is the easiest way to reach Cinque Terre. It is a bit difficult to find parking for cars.
The nearest most important town is La Spezia which is located 10 minutes south of Riomaggiore (by train).
