GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT VENETO REGION, VERONA AND VENICE
Description: Veneto is a region of north eastern Italy, bordering with Austria to the north, with Friuli Venezia Giulia to the north-east, Emilia Romagna to the south, Lombardy to the west and to east is washed by the Adriatic Sea.
Its territory is divided into the following provinces: Venice (regional capital), Verona, Vicenza, Treviso, Rovigo, Belluno and Padua.
Description Verona: Verona is one Veneto’s provinces and is located at the east of Lake Garda, not far from Lessini mountains.
This city has a lot of charm that comes from its medieval character and its heritage of monuments and art.
Cuisine and Wine: Verona's cuisine is very rich and refined and it differs a lot from the poor cuisine, typical of the mountainous areas and the countryside.
One of the typical recipes is the one that includes duck and guinea fowl meat accompanied by a special sauce called "peverada" with spices, broth, beef marrow and bread crumbs.
Among the main courses we find "bigoli (thick spaghetti) and "gnocchi di San Zeno”, potato dumplings prepared in carnival period, "zuppa scaligera", soup with pigeon broth, turkey, chicken and white wine, "pastizada de caval”, horse meat stew with gravy. Among the desserts we find the famous "Pandora" cake, "Nadalin", "brassadela" and "broade".
Among the wines we recommend Bardolino, Valpolicella and Recioto.
Description Venice: Venice is the capital of Veneto region, located in the middle of the homonymous lagoon, on about 120 islets. It is a beautiful and renowned arts, tourism, culture and education centre. Venice is one of the most famous and visited cities in the world with its priceless artistic and architectural heritage.
Cuisine and Wine: The Venetian cuisine has ancient origins and is the result of maritime traditions and influences of byzantine origin characterized by spicy flavours. A widely used ingredient is rice that is found in the recipes “risi e bisi "(rice and peas),
"risotto with luganea" with pumpkin and with "ghiozzo"a popular lagoon fish.
Among the specialties we find "sardines in saor" fried sardines with onions, vinegar, pine nuts and raisins, "bisŕto in tecia", eel cooked in earthenware pots.
"Venetian liver" and "moleche" small crabs cooked in batter and fried are among the best known main courses.
The desserts include a great variety of biscuits including "baicoli", the most famous, of slim form and sold in tins; "zaleti" cakes made with raisins and corn; "pan dei dogi” with pine nuts, raisins, cocoa, nuts and almonds.
The best wines in our opinion are Amarone della Valpolicella, Cabernet and Merlot.
