GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT TUSCANY:
Description: Tuscany is a region of Central Italy: it borders to the north with Emilia Romagna, to the east with Marches and Umbria, with Lazio to the south, to north-west for a short distance with Liguria and to the west is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea.is divided into: the provinces of Florence (regional capital), Prato, Pisa, Lucca, Grosseto, Arezzo, Siena, Pistoia and Livorno Massa Carrara.name of this region comes from its ancient inhabitants, tusci, a name that was given to etruscans by romans. Tuscany is famous worldwide for its art, history, landscapes and for the gastronomic products. Among the many art cities, the most famous are: Florence, Siena, Pisa and Lucca, and some beautiful medieval villages are San Gimignano and Montepulciano. A special feature of this beautiful region is certainly the natural heritage and the great variety of landscapes: we can find here the beautiful green hills of Chianti and Maremma Park, mountain landscapes of the Apuan Alps or Abetone, the thermal parks of Chinciano and Montecatini Terme and finally the very famous beach resorts of Versilia, Argentario and the island of Elba.
Cuisine and Wines: The typical Tuscan cuisine is simple and genuine based on quality foods such as bread (made without salt) and extra virgin olive oil.Among the typical dishes we find the delicious appetizers of meats and delicious croutons made with toasted Tuscan bread: very famous are the chicken liver croutons. Among the first course dishes we recommend "pappa al pomodoro, tomato cooked with garlic, basil and pepper. Very famous are the Tuscan soups including the delicious "ribollita”. Among the pasta dishes the most famous are undoubtedly "pappardelle with hare sauce”, pasta cooked with hare meat in red wine, olive oil and tomatoes. Other well-known dishes are steak “alla fiorentina” (meat strictly coming from Chianina cattle) and tripe. Among the local dishes there are also many fish specialty dishes including the famous "cacciucco fish soup" a typical dish of the city of Livorno, or "triglie alla livornese" (with tomatoes and peas). Among the desserts we find "Ricciarelli" and "Gingerbread" from Siena, "cantucci” from Prato, “brigidini“ from Pistoia, chestnut cake (made with chestnut flour, pine nuts and raisins), “bucellato” from Lucca. it comes to the wines of Tuscany...this is a chapter in itself: there are many varieties of wines and all very popular and well known. We find Chianti, Montepulciano, Brunello di Monatalcino, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Galestro and the red from the hills of Lucca.Last but not least, Morellino di Scansano, a wine with brilliant ruby red color and intense and fruity flavor. This wine is ideal to red meat.
