PIEDMONT

Located in north-western Italy, Piedmont borders with France in the western part and to the north with Switzerland and is famous for its beautiful alpine scenery that can be found on almost half of the region. The Alps include here the highest peaks and the largest glaciers in Italy and has an imposing and rugged look: the summits above 3000 meters seem to go down rapidly, almost vertically, towards the plain. Hence the name Piedmont which means "mountain foot".
There are numerous ski resorts including Sestriere and Via Lattea that in winter time welcome skiers from all over the world with its modern ski stations.
At the feet of the Alps can be found many
impressive and picturesque valleys, including the Susa Valley, the Valsesia and Val d'Ossola.
The other part of the territory consists in beautiful hills (cultivated with vineyards and surrounded by villages and castles) and the lowland area cultivated with rice, long poplars and where can also be found old farmhouses.
Lake Maggiore with Stresa and the Borromean Islands are other exceptional places for tourism where can be found ancient villas surrounded by English parks that enchant the soul.
The capital of the region is Turin with its significant historical and artistic heritage.
In the region of Piedmont can also be found important medieval castles such as
Ivrea castle and many significant architectural remains such as Savoy Residences and Sacred Mountains, ancient thermal areas that represent an excellent wellness and relax destination as well as the gastronomic reputation, able to satisfy all tastes.
Piedmont's cuisine is influenced by the proximity to France… blending delicate and tasteful dishes with old recipes.
Not to be forgotten the
wonderful red wines like Barolo, the good typical chocolate and the famous "gianduiotti” cookies
