ART AND CULTURE CITIES

Italy means culture, art and history.
The artistic beauties are everywhere and every corner of the country proposes countles, wonderful surprises.
Italy has the largest number of artistic and documentary heritage declared World Heritage by
UNESCO.
The cities of art are not only those universally known as
Rome, Florence, Milan, Assisi, Venice, Verona, Siena, Pisa or Naples, but also many others because the whole country is dotted with historical towns of incomparable beauty.

Italy has represented over the centuries a passage area for many people and civilizations that have left a remarkable wealth of historical art, considered world heritage by UNESCO.

  • The presence of Greek civilization in the regions of southern Italy has left many monuments of outstanding beauty such as temples and theatres in the city of Siracusa, Taormina and Agrigento in Sicily.
  • The Greek civilization was followed by the Etruscans who occupied a much wider area, leaving several testimonials in various cities of Umbria, Campania and Lazio. One of the most important Etruscan cities in Italy is Perugia with presence of cemeteries and Etruscan tombs which are of great historical importance but also other cities as for example the city of Cerveteri or Viterbo.
  • With the arrival of the roman period and the Roman Empire, the artistic culture, typical of that period, was spread throughout Italy and there are countless of evidences in Rome with its beautiful monuments like the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the area of the Imperial Forum, the Arch of Constantine and many others, or at Pompei and Ercolano in Campania region with its archaeological sites. The roman remains can be found in whole Italy, especially in the north as road constructions, infrastructure and water systems in cities like Aosta, Turin and Verona.
  • The longobards reached cities of the current Lombardy and left many evidences of their presence. Cities like Milan, Monza or Brescia are just a few examples.



The italian churches and cathedrals are full of paintings and art works from the Renaissance period.
The frescoes of
Capella Sistina in Rome or the churches of Florence, Assisi, Padua, Ferrara, Urbino and other cities...are of extraordinary beauty and represents a heritage for the whole humanity.
